Art and Expression Workshop
"Infinito"
What does the workshop consist of?
The workshop held by NBM Centre aims to explore the fascinating intersection between music and performance, focusing on how theatricality manifests itself within the art of music. Throughout several sessions, participants will be able to immerse themselves in an educational journey that will not only enrich their theoretical knowledge, but also provide them with practical tools to apply in their respective fields. Through this comprehensive experience, NBM Centre seeks not only to enrich participants’ knowledge of the relationship between music and performance, but also to foster a sense of community and artistic collaboration that lasts beyond the workshop sessions.
Workshop structure
In this module, the historical origins of acting as an artistic expression will be explored, from minstrelsy to modern actors. Participants will experience hands-on activities that will allow them to experience the art of minstrelsy in public squares and events.
Acting comes in a variety of forms, each with unique characteristics that can be paralleled with music. For example, dramatic theatre, with its intense emotional charge, resembles the expressive nuances of a musical performance. Furthermore, comedic performances can be compared to playful rhythms and agogic dynamics, where comedy flows like a light melody. Similarly, dance performances reflect the synchronization of time and tempo found in musical compositions. Understanding these connections enriches both acting and music, highlighting the intimate relationship between the two disciplines in artistic expression.
Music in drama plays a fundamental role in the construction of the narrative, providing dimensions that enrich the work. Its influence is profound, as it can intensify the emotions of the audience, guiding their response to different dramatic situations. For example, a subtle melody can evoke nostalgia, while an energetic rhythm can underline moments of action. In addition, music sets the tone of the piece, helping to create a unique atmosphere that resonates with the themes discussed. It can also develop in parallel with the characters, reflecting their internal states and transformations throughout the story, thus enriching the theatrical experience.
In the field of acting, developing breathing, voice projection and diction techniques is essential to improve communication and performance on stage. During the sessions, participants will perform specific exercises that will allow them to master proper breathing, which will help them control their anxiety and keep their voice energetic during performances. In addition, they will focus on voice projection, learning to reach the audience without straining the throat. Finally, diction exercises will be practiced that will facilitate clear articulation, ensuring that each word is understood and that acting expression is maximized.
Musical theatre is one of the most fascinating art forms, as it fuses music and acting to offer a unique and unforgettable experience. Although we commonly associate it with modern Broadway productions, its origins date back centuries, when music and acting were powerful tools for telling stories. This discipline not only entertains, but also provokes deep emotions and connects with the audience in a unique way. By exploring musical theatre, we discover how this rich tradition has evolved, integrating diverse cultural influences and styles, and consolidating itself as an essential pillar in the world of entertainment.

Soundtracks play a crucial role in the success of a film, as iconic melodies evoke intense emotions that live on in the collective memory.
In this module, we will explore two fundamental concepts in acting: the organs of attention and the fourth wall. The organs of attention are the resources we use to stay aware and connected to the environment, the characters, and the dramatic action. Through the senses and the mind, the body focuses on a goal, which is crucial to achieving concentration and credibility on stage. On the other hand, the fourth wall refers to the invisible wall that separates actors from the audience. The way actors choose to break or maintain this barrier can significantly influence the tension and interaction during the performance.
This module explores the fascinating fusion between theatricality and music, transforming the latter into a character in its own right within a performance. It is not just a traditional performance; here, musicians embody emotions, ideas and narratives through gestures, expressions and the very playing of their instruments. Music becomes a living entity that, like an actor on stage, takes on different roles and personalities throughout the performance.
